S.H.O.E.S. SEXY HEELS OR EASY SANDALS

NL - In de Kunsthal Rotterdam (Nederland) was in het voorjaar van 2014 het design van de damesschoen vanaf 1900 tot dan te bewonderen. ‘S.H.O.E.S' - Sexy Heels or Easy Sandals- toonde bijna 450 schoenen van coryfeeën onder wie schoenontwerpers André Perugia en Salvatore Ferragamo, internationale ‘sterontwerpers' zoals Manolo Blahnik en Christian Louboutin, en van hedendaags én jong aanstormend talent.
Schoenen als ware kunstwerken en op hoogambachtelijk niveau gemaakt: van Victoriaanse laarzen tot aanlokkelijke muiltjes en van pumps tot de meest futuristische creaties. De ongelofelijke variatie en creativiteit van talrijke schoenontwerpen is een lust voor het oog en maakte de tentoonstelling S.H.O.E.S. tot een onweerstaanbare ‘must-see' voor iedereen met een passie voor mode en design.

VAN PRAKTISCH ONTWERP TOT STATUSSYMBOOL

Door de jaren heen doen afwisselend de zweefhak, open hiel, plateauzool, enkelbandjes, strikken en andere decoraties hun entree in het modebeeld. Ontwerpers experimenteren voortdurend met verschillende vormen, materialen, kleuren en comfort. Kruisbestuivingen en terugblikken op voorgaande modebeelden gaan hand in hand met nieuwe experimenten. De elegantie van de damesschoen wordt steeds verder opgerekt en de hoogte van de hak stijgt naar wel 15 cm. Vernieuwende technologieën en materialen zoals microvezels, elastische en synthetische materialen zorgen voor extreme vormen en soms ook sterk erotisch geladen schoenen. Door de opkomst van ‘couturier' modehuizen en hun ontwerpers ontwikkelt de damesschoen zich van verleidingsobject naar ultiem statussymbool. Zoals actrice Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City zweert bij haar Manolo Blahniks, zo begeren veel vrouwen nieuwe schoenen tot verliefdheid aan toe.

JUWEELTJES UIT GERENOMMEERDE COLLECTIES

Vele juweeltjes uit gerenommeerde collecties zijn in de tentoonstelling S.H.O.E.S. - een samenwerking met Modemuseum Hasselt - opgenomen, zoals Perugia's surrealistische ontwerp "Hommage à Braque' (1931) uit de collectie van het Musée Internationale de la Chaussure in Romans en de eerste sandaal met plateauzool die Ferragamo in 1938 ontwierp voor actrice Judy Garland. Uiteraard is ook Roger Vivier vertegenwoordigd als de uitvinder van de stilettohak in 1954. Van collecties dichterbij huis zijn prachtige ontwerpen te zien zoals de transparante plastic pump (1960) van Beth & Herbert Levine uit de collectie van Modemuseum Hasselt, en de kleurrijke stilettohak (1985) van Charles Jourdan uit de collectie van het Nederlandse Leder en Schoenen Museum Waalwijk. Deze grote meesters onder de schoenontwerpers worden uitgelicht evenals in eigen land Jan Jansen, die al sinds begin jaren zeventig tot de internationale top behoort. Ook bekende hedendaagse ontwerpers uit Nederland en België komen in S.H.O.E.S. ruimschoots aan bod onder wie Rem D. Koolhaas, Jan Taminiau en jonge talenten Katrien Herdewijn en Nienke van Dee (winnaar Global Footwear Design Award 2013).

De tentoonstelling komt tot stand in samenwerking met Modemuseum Hasselt (bewerking van ‘In Her Shoes', 2009, curator Kenneth Ramaekers) en de schoenen zijn afkomstig uit collecties van Modemuseum Hasselt, Musée Internationale de la Chaussure (Romans), Museo Salvatore Ferragamo (Florence), Bata Shoe Museum (Toronto), Nederlands Leder en Schoenen Museum (Waalwijk) en Nationaal Schoeisel Museum (Izegem, België).

ENG - In the spring of 2014, the Kunsthal Rotterdam (Netherlands) exhibited the design of the women's shoe from 1900 until then. S.H.O.E.S.' - Sexy Heels or Easy Sandals - showcased almost 450 shoes by coryphées including shoe designers André Perugia and Salvatore Ferragamo, international 'star designers' such as Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin, and by contemporary and young up-and-coming talent.
Shoes as true works of art and made at a high craftsmanship level: from Victorian boots to tempting slippers and from pumps to the most futuristic creations. The incredible variety and creativity of numerous shoe designs is a feast for the eyes and makes the exhibition S.H.O.E.S. an irresistible 'must-see' for anyone with a passion for fashion and design.

FROM PRACTICAL DESIGN TO STATUS SYMBOL

Throughout the years, the hovering heel, open heel, platform sole, ankle straps, bows and other decorations have alternated in the fashion scene. Designers constantly experiment with different shapes, materials, colours and comfort. Cross-pollination and looking back on previous fashion images go hand in hand with new experiments. The elegance of the ladies' shoe is being stretched further and further, and the height of the heel is rising to 15 cm. Innovative technologies and materials, such as microfibres, elastic and synthetic materials, result in extreme forms and sometimes even highly erotic shoes. With the emergence of 'couturier' fashion houses and their designers, the women's shoe evolves from seduction object to ultimate status symbol. Just as actress Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City swears by her Manolo Blahniks, many women covet new shoes to the point of infatuation.

JEWELS FROM RENOWNED COLLECTIONS

Many jewels from renowned collections are included in the exhibition S.H.O.E.S. - a collaboration with Modemuseum Hasselt - such as Perugia's surrealistic design "Hommage à Braque' (1931) from the collection of the Musée Internationale de la Chaussure in Romans and the first sandal with platform sole that Ferragamo designed in 1938 for actress Judy Garland. Of course, Roger Vivier is also represented as the inventor of the stiletto heel in 1954. From collections closer to home, beautiful designs are on display, such as the transparent plastic pump (1960) by Beth & Herbert Levine from the collection of Modemuseum Hasselt, and the colourful stiletto heel (1985) by Charles Jourdan from the collection of the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum Waalwijk. These great masters of shoe design will be highlighted, as well as domestic Jan Jansen, who has been among the international top since the early 1970s. Well-known contemporary designers from the Netherlands and Belgium will also be featured in S.H.O.E.S., including Rem D. Koolhaas, Jan Taminiau and young talents Katrien Herdewijn and Nienke van Dee (winner of the Global Footwear Design Award 2013).
